NUTSHELL TENDER 1932 Boats Review and Specs
Year: 1932Manufacturer: Pendleton Yacht Yard
Price: US$4,000
LILLY PAD was a tender to the yacht GYPSY, which was designed and built by the renowned yacht designer and sailor Frank Paine in the 1930’s. Built personally by Mr. Paine at the renowned George Lawley & Sons yard in Neponset, MA which Mr. Paine owned, LILLY PAD was designed to fit on the roof of the cabin trunk, and was built low and broad so the boom wouldn’t hit it when she “went about or jibed”. Frank Paine built and owned the J-Boat YANKEE and, as owner of the George Lawley & Sons boatyard, was instrumental in the building of the first sixteen Dark Harbor 20’s which are still raced at the Tarratine Yacht Club in Dark Harbor, Maine. Mr. Paine became friends with Clinton Crane, the designer of the DH20’s, and bought the Sears Cottage in Dark Harbor to be his neighbor. Still in the family and not needing much after being stored in a barn for 75 years, LILLY PAD has been restored and is for sale. The few broken ribs have been replaced as well as several knees. It has been stripped and varnished. Other than these few new items, everything is original including row locks and oars.
