Erica J, an International 8 Metre Class yacht, was built of Huon pine in Hobart by Max Creese at his Battery Point yard. From a design by Bjarne Aas of Norway, she was launched on 7 June 1949. In the 1950s she represented the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania in six challenge matches for the Sayonara Cup under the ownership of Ted Domeney, winning the prestigious Cup in 1953. She has been in ownership in Hobart and in Sydney during different periods of her life, kept in active sailing condition. Many yachtsmen and women have learnt to sail or experienced racing on Sydney Harbour aboard Erica J over the years. Recent refits and regular repairs keep Erica J in good condition and continuing to race with both CYCA and classic yacht events on the harbour. She will continue to stand the test of time, outliving owners who are privileged to be caretakers of the boat for future sailing generations.
