She is a fine and seaworthy motorsailer built by the renown Palmer Johnson yard, designed, and crafted for the owners of that yard. She has been appreciated, updated, and lovingly cared for since her christening and launching in 1955. She has spent most of her life in the great lakes region of the North American continent, benefiting from the fresh water there, and her few knowledgeable and generous owners. She has a hull of 1 ¼” Mahogany planks, fastened with bronze screws to steam bent White Oak frames on 9” centers, with White Oak keel, stem and horn timbers. Her house is constructed of Mahogany planks, a clear indication of her quality as she will never have the issues one associates with marine ply house construction. Her clear teak decks are 5/8” thick and her deck caulking is in fine shape as you can see in her detailed photo layout. Her design, build quality, materials will ensure that she remains a stout and seaworthy vessel for generations to come. Azure’s allure goes far beyond the quality of her construction. She is a beautiful and elegant yacht, with stunning lines and a very approachable presence. Her sheer line takes your eye from her prominent bow, along her graceful hull form to her large and inviting cockpit and varnished transom. The style of her house is unique and rare. After taking in her form, your eyes are drawn to her fitments crafted of bronze which add to her beauty, but are clearly born of a clear mind of function, reliability, and longevity. Once aboard Azure, everyone is rewarded with expectations and hopes met, regardless of classic vessel knowledge. Her interior is a dichotomy of elegance and simple functionality. Space is utilized in 3 dimensions, which creates living spaces not limited to one plane. There are 3 distinct planes for living areas, with a generous equipment and engine bay below. Her lazarette under the cockpit is open to the engine bay, which keeps what is normally the dampest area of classic vessels warm dry and well ventilated. Occasional guests not familiar with yachts will appreciate the absence of mugginess which seems to be present on lesser vessels, and those who understand and appreciate these yachts from a technical and ownership standpoint will appreciate the lack of maintenance and issues that arise from the lazarette and transom areas lacking an abundance of proper ventilation. Her three levels of living space provide an atmosphere that is conducive to privacy without isolation. Her living areas are bright, dry, and well ventilated. Views from aboard range from outdoor living throughout her open decks spaces, 360 degree views from her fabulous salon and wheelhouse area, large windows and opening bronze port lights in her galley, and opening bronze port lights in every living space. She is equipped with custom screens for her beautiful butterfly hatch in her master suite, as well as all other openings throughout her living spaces. While this feature is not needed in the Puget Sound and San Juan Islands, it is a wonderful thing to have as one goes farther north to Alaska or to the tropics to the south. Azure sleeps up to 7 in designated berths throughout the vessel. Her galley is an absolute dream, with an interior that is just as timelessly elegant as the rest of the vessel, but also is as functional as any galley on the seas.
