PRICE REDUCED $20k ON 9/28/2011 A well maintained modern classic that sails like a dream! Designed by Ben Seaborn and built by Vic Franck’s Boatyard in Seattle, Washington, HELENE was in many ways ahead of her time. Below the waterline, her fin keel and skeg hung rudder, shallow rocker, long waterline and wide stern proved to eventually echo the direction yacht design would take and to be very fast on the race course. While HELENE has primarily served as a cruising vessel, her sistership SEA FEVER was a successful racer, competing in local races as well as two Transpacs. Designer Bob Perry said of SEA FEVER “If it weren’t for the international success of the Thunderbird, I would chose SEA FEVER as the archetypal Seaborn boat. As a boy living on Mercer Island (Seattle), I would make frequent bike trips down to Lake Washington to gaze at SEA FEVER, the biggest, meanest and fastest boat around, a real “machine.” For living aboard, her large raised salon with below deck controls provides the protection so often needed for cruising Pacific Northwest waters. It also provides a living and entertaining space that is second to none, with excellent views of her environment and lots of light. Her spacious galley is a chef’s dream and serves to further accommodate large groups. Storage and mechanical spaces are ample and well conceived. On deck, her cockpit is comfortable and spacious – even for her size. A tall coaming and long seats provide protection and seating for a number of guests – whether it’s an afternoon daysail or dinner in a quiet anchorage. Over and over, HELENE has proven that she is a fantastic cruising vessel. Probably the best proof is the fact that she has remained in the same family since new. Annually, HELENE undergoes out of water inspections of her hull, rig and systems, performed for the past 30 years by Miller & Miller Boatyard and Seaview Boatyard in Seattle. Extensive records are available. Her owners have spared no expense in keeping her hull and systems in “as new” condition. At this asking price, HELENE is quite possibly the best value of any classic wooden vessel on the market today.
