Hong Kong  in 1964. Cheoy Lee was a prolific builder of UK and even some American designs. The yard produced many Laurent Giles designs including  15 Vertues and a series of these Arthur Robb Lion Class sloops which were popular for the Californian market. Cheoy Lee boats are all built in teak with excellent quality of workmanship.   Planked in teak using the edge-glued, strip plank method of construction which produces a continuous and totally water-tight hull skin. The planking is edge  pinned with copper nails and fastened with copper nails and rooves to Ipol steam bent timbers, approx 1 ½” x 2” at 18” centres. Yacal back bone with an external lead ballast keel. Ferrous strap floors. Bronze keel bolts Hull stripped back to bare wood below the waterline 2008. Varnished transom board.   The Lion Class has a perfect balance of side deck width to coach-roof width to give clear, wide side decks allowing safe passage fore and aft and a clear fore deck. Sheathed ply decks give a clean low-maintenance and totally water-tight surface and go well with the varnished teak of the toe rail and coach-roof. Doghouse and coachroof tops also sheathed and painted. Sky-light on the coach-roof deck with heavy varnished teak coamings, opens both ways on custom-made newly chromed hinges. Similar hatch on the fore end of the coach-roof. Small hatch on the fore deck just aft of the stemhead and the windlass and another small hatch on the aft deck access the lazarette in the counter. Varnished teak toe rails and cappings, coachroof and cockpit coamings, hatches and grabrails. 2 pairs of newly chromed vents on varnished teak Dorade boxes on the coach-roof. Deck fittings removed and rechromed 2005, new guardwires 2006,   Long, deep self draining cock-pit rebuilt in 2004 with deep varnished teak coamings to give plenty of back-support. Scrubbed teak sea/lockers each side. To port forward is a small locker with the manual bilge pump and a long locker lid to the back of the cock-pit, opening to reveal a deep cock-pit locker.
