S/Y FROLIC is one of twelve fiberglass Yawls designed by Bill Luders and built by Uniflite for the Naval Academy in the 60’s. These yachts are also known as the Annapolis 44 and were built to replace a fleet of Luders wooden yawls commissioned by the Naval Academy in the 30’s. FROLIC was purchased by her present owners in 2006 and has been restored in accordance with her original design which is one of simplicity and beauty. The sweeping sheer line and elegant overhangs are captivating to see and evoke a strong sense of maritime nostalgia. The uncluttered deck is surrounded by a massive bulwark creating a sense of strength and security. Lifeline stanchions and pulpits are high grade stainless steel and believed to be original. The cockpit is ten feet in length which is exceptional for a yacht of this size. Below deck the cabin layout has been maintained in the orignal form with the main berth forward, single head, salon pilot berths and one quarter berth aft. The eight bronze ports are believd to be original. A completely rebuilt Perkins diesel engine and transmission was installed in 2007 with 130 hours of runnning time since installation. The heavy walled aluminum spars are believed to be original while all the wire standing rigging was replaced in 2007. A new roller furler was also installed in 2007. The bronze chain plates are also believed to be original. FROLIC is a true classic and lives on as a functional yacht capable of racing or cruising among more contemporary vessels. She was recently hauled out for new bottom paint and routine maintenace in March 2011. She is moored in beautiful Christiansted harbor, St. Croix awaiting her new owner.
