“Grassholm” was built for Trinity House in 1970, under the supervision of their own surveyors, as a seagoing pilot vessel, capable of handling the heaviest of weather. The hull is very strongly constructed of 2� teak planking on oak frames at 12� centres, doubled from the water line to the keel. She has bilge keels fitted, and the main deck and bridge superstructure is constructed of aluminium. She retains her original water tight doors, hatches and bulkheads. She is powered by a Gardner 8L3B eight cylinder naturally aspirated diesel, driving a 48″ three bladed propeller through a 3:1 reduction box and hydraulic gearbox. The engine has twin starter motors, twin alternators, and there is a separate auxiliary Lister diesel generator in the very large, walk around engine room. She remained in Trinity House ownership, maintained to the standards required by DTI Class VIIIA, until purchased by her present owner, who refitted the interior in teak paneling to use as a long-distance motor yacht with live-aboard comfort. She now has two private double cabins, one with a full size double berth and the other with two singles, plus two more single bunks. If required there are two more settee berths in the saloon, and a further two crew berths in the lazarette store room aft of the engine room. Both double cabins have their own washbasins, and the heads has a proper full size shower compartment A recent insurance survey gave her a very good report, including mentioning that although currently in private use, that she would easily code for commercial use
