This Barbary Ketch, Barbary Spirit, Designed by Walter Rainer, was fitted out by FC Mitchell & Sons  of Poole, Dorset, on mouldings by Robert Ives, of Christchurch and launched in 1974. She was Epoxy treated in 2000. She offers up to six berths in three cabins, has a good galley ands a separate heads / shower. She comes with Bow Thruster, Pinta Autopilot  VHF etc.. The Barbary Ketch is a heavy displacement, long keel motor sailer. Her shape and displacement give her a sea kindly motion, her wheel shelter gives protection from the elements and her powerful 42 hp Mercedes diesel gets her home quickly when the wind drops or the tide turns foul.  One very important advantage with the Barbary Ketch is that the canvas cover over the wheelhouse can remain in place whilst sailing to provide excellent protection for  up to 4 people. All sheets for main, mizzen and genoa are controllable from the wheelhouse in this configuration.
