This custom Steel Ketch is a fine example of professional Dutch yacht building. Designed by Henk Tingen, one of Holland?s renowned naval architects, who was also the chief designer for Royal Huisman, the builders of some the world?s finest classic luxury yachts. She is a proven cruiser, maintained continuously by professionals with quality materials and her electronics and equipment have been upgraded when necessary. In 1984 she was returned to the Scheepswerf Kok (Boat Builder) in Vinkeveen ? Holland for a complete rebuild and refit from the masthead to the keel and was recommissioned in 1985. In 1992 in Australia she had an interim preparation refit for passage around Cape Horn via Antarctica, increased size rigging etc. Following refit – that passage was cancelled due to other commitments. But in 2011, Big Smile again returned to a yard where professionals gave her a complete makeover, for all intents and purposes much of this sailboat is new. As a genuine cruiser she has made several Atlantic passages, has cruised the Mediterranean extensively. Made passage from North America to many of the Polynesian islands in the South Pacific ? to New Zealand and Australia, To Kiribati (Gilbert Islands) To Vanuatu, then to South East Asia where she has explored Borneo, Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand . She took her crew to the distant Chagos Archipelago in the middle of the Indian Ocean and spent time in the Andaman Islands (half way between Burma and India) These boat details are subject to contract.
