Baltic 37 1979 Boats Review and Specs

Year: 1979
Manufacturer: Bach Yachting International
Price: EUR 58,000
(US$77,233)

Nice sailing yacht; interior needs some TLC   Refit:   New set of Quantum and North racing sails (main, genoa #1 and #2, spinnakers S4 and A5) New rod rigging and Holamtro hydralic backstay adjuster Teak deck replaced 2008 Reconditioned MD11C engine 2009 New Raymarine ST60+ instruments 2010 Raymarine A50 chartplatter 2010 New upholstery 2008 New ST winches, stoppers and deck gear for shorthanded sailing, 2009-2010  Comment by the owner: This yacht is a fast IOR racer from the late 1970’s.  She combines good performance with an element of style and comfort below.  Her greatest strength is light weather performance, where the large genoas and masthead spinnaker, and lower wetted surface than broad-transom modern designs, are a real advantage.  She is also very seaworthy and performs well in weather and heavy seas, where some very light modern designs struggle (or lose keels, or masts, or rudders).   The Baltic 37 has earned a reputation as ‘classic plastic’ and she is featured in the German book “99 Klasiekers” She was built in 1979, the 9th of the 51 boats in the series.  Many Baltic 37s are still actively racing and earning honors.  She was first named “Delight III” and had a Swedish owner for many years.  She was moved to Holland in 1995, and again sold in 2003 to its previous owner,  This owner had the hull epoxied, updated part of the sail wardrobe, and raced her lightly until putting her on the market when he found a Baltic 38DP to his liking.  When the current owner purchased her in 2007 she was ready for a significant refit.  Her teak decks and rod rigging were replaced and the sail wardrobe has been largely replaced and upgraded over the last three years.   The original  MD11 motor was replaced by a refurbished and much better running MD11.  The instruments have also been upgraded, and a revised deck layout and some new hardware allows more lines to come aft (making crewed racing as well as solo and dual-handed sailing. Running rigging has been substantially replaced with lighter Dyneema core line. Since the refit she has again become competitive in sail races, particularly offshore, highlighted by a class and overall win in the 2009 North Sea Race, second in class in the 2010 North Sea Race, and fourth place overall in the 2009-2010 double-handed Coldhanded Cup series.  She is currently lying second in the IRC 3 class in the 2010  overall standings. In addition to becoming more competitive, she has been much appreciated by owner and friends as a daysailer and cruiser on the Ijsselmeer.  She combines classic looks with ease to sail, kindly seagoing ability and a rugged design.   The skipper and crew are reluctant to let her go, but further concentration on shorthanded races and  inshore events has led to a decision to purchase a smaller and more suitable boat.    WWW.BALTICYACHTS.FI BALTIC 37Delivery year: 1978-1983Naval Architect: C & C DesignUnits built: 51The target for our Baltic 37 design was to produce a high performance, comfortable, easily handled yacht capable of offshore racing as well as offshore cruising at a size which could be best described as a “small one-tonner”. Characteristics were very much in line with the successful Baltic 39, while embodying changes aimed towards improved upwind and downwind performance especially in medium to light wind conditions. The deck design offered a handsome low profile and companionway entrance with easy acc
