There are many reasons why the Stevens 47 is one of our favorite blue water boats! This is a big three-stateroom, center cockpit boat with room for a family! Spacious and comfortable, she sleeps eight, and has the capacity for carrying everything you need. And the Steven’s is affordable! And it is a great sailing boat; powerful and swift! And, why not. The world renowned design firm of Sparkman & Stevens had the benefit of knowledge gained  from 60 years of designing the world’s greatest ocean sailing vessels;  Bolero, Running Tide, Tenacious, Brilliant, and eight America’s Cup Winners, to name just a few successes. The Stevens 47 was another amazing success. Originally designed for the charter trade, the Stevens 47 is well recognized as a wonderful boat in fact the predecessor of the Hylas 49. The November, 1997 issue of Cruising World Magazine, featured a beautiful article about the Stevens 47 “Rubiyat” which  voyaged into “The Wilds of Borneo’s Heart of Darkness”, sailing up the Crocodile River into jungles and rain forest of Borneo, Indonesia during her four-year circumnavigation. Guess what. Yes that was this very Stevens 47! Almost 15 years later, this design is still one of the best affordable voyaging platforms for the sailor with visions of sailing far. We are proud to offer this vessel for sail because we have known her for many years and she is an excellent example of  a capable world cruising yacht. We knew the previous owner very well. He had completely refit the boat back in 1999 so he could circumnavigate. He spared no expense. Everything was reworked or replaced, and everything was new in 1999 from the rigging and sails to the stove in the galley. It is nice to know that EVERYTHING was new in 1999. Everything was rebedded, rerigged, and renewed. The Liesurefurl mainsail system was added with an electric winch, new traveler, and new rigging. All the deck hatches were replaced or rebedded at that time and lots more. The current owner has continued to maintain the boat in good condition and used the boat lightly in the Chesapeake Bay for many years before finding the time to get South! He and his wife sailing with the Caribbean 1500 rally in 2010 and enjoyed the winter season in the islands. As a Carib 1500 veteran, all the safety gear was updated, recertified, or replaced for the trip. If you are looking for a Stevens or a big ocean going sailboat with three staterooms that is well equipped with everything you need, this is the boat to buy. She also had chainplates replaced and a complete rig survey in 2011. This a special Stevens 47! She is a very nice offering at a very fair price. But don’t wait very long to call us now.
