BROKERS COMMENTS: In the early 80’s, a well known Victoria, B.C sailor, having achieved the means and the time to do so, had a dream to have a custom sailboat designed and built, with his input, and then to take his family on the cruise of a lifetime. This may sound like a familiar theme – but the difference here is that the total dream was achieved and became reality. Respected and well known Naval Architect Francis Kinney was commissioned to do the design work and Bent Jesperson of Sidney, B.C, considered one of the best wooden boat builders in the world, was chosen to build her. The end result, expectedly, was stunning. As one can see from her pictures, construction and underbody details, “Celeste ll” represents the best of traditional beautiful lines, married with modern design philosophy and wood construction techniques. The end result is a vessel that is beautiful to look at, is fast, sails extremely well, is seaworthy and has great functional accommodation for a small crew inshore or offshore. If she is looked after well as she is used to, her incredibly strong, watertight cold molded construction should see her through many future decades of continuous use. She was launched in 1986 and soon after, the owner and his family took her on a very successful cruise from the Pacific Northwest to French Polynesia and back. Since then she has been cruised annually in local waters as far afield as Alaska. The owner has now reached a stage of life where he wishes to partake of different activities and she is thus reluctantly for sale. The decision to sell has been a long and difficult process because, as one can imagine, “Celeste ll” has become a member of the family. It is very important to the owner that she ends up in the hands of someone who really appreciates what a wonderful piece of art work she is and is able to look after her accordingly. A very thorough in and out of the water survey has just been completed of “Celeste ll” by one of the most respected, knowledgeable and thorough Marine Surveyors on the West Coast and she came through with flying colors. This survey is available to be viewed at our offices by serious potential purchasers.   OWNERS COMMENTS: It had always been my dream to have my perfect boat built in wood. I simply love the “feel” of a well built and executed sailing vessel. In conversations I had with many people, along with my own fairly extensive sailing experience, I felt that the ideal size to accommodate my family for a planned offshore cruise was around 40′. Francis Kinney, the author of “Skene’s Elements of Yacht Design,” and the former head designer at the Naval Architect firm of Sparkmans and Stephens of New York, had, in my opinion, the perfect eye to come up with pleasing lines for the boat and really importantly – give her superb sea keeping qualities. The relatively long overhangs on the boat with the rudder attached to the skeg, bringing the rudder further aft, increases the directional stability and waterline when heeled. The shape of the stern sections, I believe, increases the buoyancy aft and decreases the chances of shipping seas over the stern in adverse sea conditions. I contracted Bent Jespersen of Sidney to build “Celeste ll” of cold molded construction in Cedar and Honduras Mahogany with no cost restrictions. Francis Kinney and his wife flew in from New York for the launching in April. He was very impressed with the quality of workmanship – “among the best I have seen” he said. The boat was invited to be showcased at Expo ’86 in Vancouver, B.C. where she received the “Best of Sail” award. In September 1986 we (my family and I) sailed from Victoria to San Diego which doubled as a shakedown cruise. We had no teething problems with the boat. That winter we departed for the Marquesas Islands on our way south. It was an El Nino year and we
