The more I learned about it, the more I liked it.   I had been looking at boats for several months and saw some interesting offerings, but nothing as cool as this Fair Weather Mariner.   I really did not know much about them until I bought this boat, but what I have found out is pretty interesting. My understanding is that there were only 28 of these boats produced, but the boats were of such high build quality that they just could not afford to manufacture them in the hostile economic environment of the late ’80s. It was originally destined to be the Westsail 39, and though 4 of those were manufactured, Westsail quickly discontinued the line. A company in San Pedro California was able to aquire the molds and the rights to this awesome Robert Perry design and the Fair Weather Mariner was born. The hulls were laid up in San Pedro and then delivered to Taiwan where the interior finish work was done. This boat benefits from some of the most beautiful teak woodwork I have ever seen. The hand carved doors are works of art in and of themselves.   It turns out that the builder still lives in the San Pedro area and I have had a chance to hang with him on several occasions. He has been a wealth of information and help regarding this great vessel and loves to keep track of the boats that he is still aware of.
