Bill admired by many, and passed away in Sidney BC in 2011.   This is a classic Yacht that he called one of his children.   Biography of William Garden William Garden, Yacht and boat designer, 1918 -2011. He attended the Edison Boatbuilding School in Seattle and then went to work for Andrew’s Boat Company for several years before forming his own company in 1940. Drafted by the US Army during World War II, Garden was posted at the Adak Ship Repair Base in the Aleutian Islands. Discharged in spring 1946, Garden became a licensed Naval Architect a year and a half later. His design business continued to grow, and in 1968 he relocated to an island in British Columbia. His early work consisted of mainly fishing boats — seiners, gillnet boats, halibut boats, and trollers — while his later work primarily involves yacht designs. He contributed articles and designs to Rudder, Yachting, WoodenBoat and other maritime publications, and he wrote several books about his designs, including “100 Yacht and Vessel Designs: From the Board of William Garden,” circa 1971, “Yacht Designs,” 1977, “Yacht Designs II,” 1992 and “Yacht Designs: Revised and Expanded.”   I love to design boats. Rather design boats than eat. Often do. So let’s get going on the perfect ship before you are so old that you have to be carried aboard. I have drawers full of stock plans and a head full of boats that want to be launched. Whether you want the ultimate in a motor or sailing yacht or a one cylinder clam hound, I can fix you up with a plan to suit.   So wrote the legendary William Garden, 1918 – 2011, he was a Canadian boat designer who drew boat plans for many hundreds of craft in a long career, including both yachts and workboats, and anything in between. Many of them as attractive as you’ll find anywhere. If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. -Henry David Thoreau-
