This 31 Norwalk Island Sharpie 1995 is a capable liveaboard open water cruiser racer. The famed Laser Designer, Bruce Kirby took the un-stayed sheet ply cat ketch concept and blew it out to a beamier West System Epoxy cold-molded curved sides and bottom; intended to be a stayed ketch or yawl rig rocket ship. Taking Kirby’s excellent design one step further, the builder and original owner asked renowned marine engineer, Lars Bergstrom, designer of the Windex and the innovative rigs found on most Hunter Sailboats, to design and build the powerful double-spreader Sloop Rig with Aluminum  spars and all rod-rigging installed on this customized and much improved Norwalk Island Sharpie. She was built by legendary wooden boat-builder, George Luzier in Sarasota, Florida, with help from her original owner, a well-respected local builder and experienced yachtsman. Comfortable extended coastal capability and with experienced crew and good preparation, open water passage-making ability.  In Bruce Kirby’s own words: “Brilliant self steering qualities. This 31 Norwalk Island Sharpie 1996 has a powerful sail plan, and loaded with the latest technology including a carbon-fiber telescoping sprit so you can fly the light-air Drifter with a ProFurl Roller Furling Code-“0” continuous-line Furler when off the wind for blazing speed. Her deck, spars, and cabin top are freshly Awlgripped and you’ll find lots of new hardware, including Harken self-tailing winches, Garhauer SS Solid Rod Vang, sheet stoppers, new running rigging and many recent cruising amenities including a new SS Propane BBQ Grill, varnished teak cockpit table, new Sunbrella Bimini with SS Frame, Garmin GPSmap 520 Color Chartplotter, Spectra Life Lines and a cockpit extension platform designed to carry several hundred pounds of extra gear for extended cruising.  The air-contitioned interior is light and bright with extensive varnished teak cabinetry with cane inserts for excellent ventilation built into every available space providing fantastic storage for a yacht this size. The full-beam galley is appointed with attractive ceramic tile backsplash, solid-surface countertops, stove, oven, sink and 12V Adler Barbour refrigeration with a new and very efficient coldplate. The very comfortable salon area is divided by the lifting keel/centerboard trunk with two long settees that are also used for single berths. The Master berth is located well back from the bow, and is quite large compared to other boats this size with traditional V-berths. A large and dry hanging locker is located forward of the berth. The private head has a new electric toilet and the solid surface one-piece molded vanity and sink has excellent storage below and above the vanity.  If you are looking for a shallow-draft, yet stable and safe offshore cruiser under 35 feet, this Sharpie should be the next one you inspect.
