Skagit Orca 27XLC Boats Review and Specs

Year: 1999
Manufacturer: Cape Lookout Yacht Sales & Charters
Price: US$54,900

This is one of the nicest, well maintained Orca 27’s on the open market. Don’t miss out on one of the best built vessel’s around!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   The Skagit Orca XLC 27 is THE PREMIUM Northwest fish boat offering 68 square feet of aft cockpit for hardcore fish fighting, complete with TWO 4-foot in-sole fish boxes and a molded transom fish cleaning station.  This particular XLC combines excellent robust sea keeping, economical high performance, wonderful creature comforts and reliability; wrapped up in a bulletproof hull. It is her heavy construction which makes this Skagit Orca a great commercial dive vessel, every day transportation in the islands, or simply the finest recreational cruiser and fishing boat in her class. Please take the time to look closely at the pictures. You will find high quality and well thought out design details on every component. Notice the stailess rails…..welded not erector set style. Notice the pictures of deck hardware, inclucing the cleats, mounted in manners which eliminate the toe stubbers found on lesser offerings on the market today. Compare the mounting bases of her safety rails—-no stress cracks that thin decked boats have.If you need to walk forward to play your catch, there’s a flat, wide walkaround with a heavy non-skid surface and a 1-foot-6-inch high stainless-steel safety railing around the entire outside perimeter. There is also a grab rail running the length of the hardtop on both sides. Everywhere on this fishing machine, there are firm, secure stainless steel grab rails where you instinctively reach for a hand hold.So many sea going vessel purchases are made due to layout and other considerations, that many lose sight of the main task at hand—comfortable, efficient and safe travel. For this we start with the hull…..Here’s how she’s built:”……Every Skagit Orca hull and deck remains in the mold for at least 72 total hours. The industry average is 8 hours. This extra curing time allows the gel coat, resin, and fiberglass, all to cure in the optimum environment – the safety of the mold – It also allows, in the hull’s case, for the use of the injection of closed-cell polyurethane foam, instead of the industry standard of the “Open Pour” method of foam-filling the hull. The problem with the open pour method is that it leaves a series of peaks and valleys underneath the deck structure, which trap and hold water throughout the entire bottom area. In the case of most boats manufactured today, this is the cause of rot in both the deck structure and wood stringer system. Included in our 72 hours of curing time in the mould are three processes. The hull is laid up, the unique unitized moulded, stinger system is laid up, bonded to the hull, and injected with closed-cell polyurethane foam. We then lay up the liner, allow it to cure, then bond it to the stringer grid and inject closed-cell foam in all remaining void areas. This complete process allows us to produce a hull, stringer, and liner combination that it totally devoid of any wood, and does not use the cabin structure for strength. We simply do not believe there is a better way to make a fiberglass boat hull. The physical process of hull and deck lay up starts with a 20ml. layer of “Armor Coat” gel coat sprayed into the respective moulds and allowed to cure. In the mould we then lay a skin coat of 20oz chop for bonding and a 2oz continuous matt using “Hydrex” vinylester blended resin. This method accomplishes a number of things. We attain the strongest possible bond between gel coat and fiberglass, it produces a hard layer, preventing the roving from showing through the gel coat, and provides an excellent blister resistant barrier. This step is then allowed to cure.We now alternate 3 layers of 20oz continuous matt and
