Bermudian yawl. MCA Register Part I Official No. 165272 Call sign MMKM Designed and built by Dickie of Bangor, N Wales in 1937. The Dickie brothers worked for Wm Fife at Fairlie before setting up their own yard down the coast at Tarbert. Peter Dickie subsequently left to set up his own yard at Bangor, N Wales while his brother remained at Tarbert. This yacht is very typical of their work, with its signature canoe stern and fine workmanship. The yacht was refitted by the present owner in 1998 and commissioned with finishing work continuing on the interior and is now berthed in Falmouth, Cornwall. Length on deck 40.2? Lwl 32 Beam 10.4? Draft 5.5? Thames tonnage 15TM Sail area 746sq? Planked in teak all copper fastened to 4? x 3? sawn oak frames in pairs at 20? centres with one heavy steamed oak timber between. Long iron ballast keel with iron keel bolts. Galvanised iron strap floors bolted to the sides of the grown frames. New laminated sister ribs fitted between main oak ribs. Two new laminated stringers, one stbd, one port, also fitted. All planks copper nailed and roved to new ribs. Tiller steering. New deck laid in Cornwall in 2008 consisting of ½? teak on a ½? marine ply sub deck, all fixed to new oak deck beams. Teak deck joggled to a wide king plank and laid to the varnished teak cover board forward and aft. Varnished teak toe rail above the varnished teak sheer strake with inscribed cove line. Heavy oak Sampson post forward takes the heel of the fixed bowsprit and another heavy oak Sampson post afttakes the heel of the bumpkin. Stemhead galvanised iron with twin chain rollers. Bronze deck fittings. Bronze stanchion post bases and s/s posts (not fitted) Varnished teak coach-roof coamings, raised to a dog-house aft. 4 bronze port holes each side of the coamings and twin windows in the dog-house. Nicely radiused corners and top edges to the coamings with sheathed T&G coach-roof deck. Teak grab rails each side. Traditional twin varnished teak sky-lights on the coach-roof with bronze protection bars on the opening glazed lights. Two varnished teak fore hatches on the fore deck. Large, deep cock-pit with beautifully rounded after end and the dog-house over the forward end. Curved T&G varnished teak locker doors below the coamings to the lazarette. Seat lockers each side in the fwd corners under the dog-house over-hang provide excellent sheltered seating. Full length twin doors to the cabin. The whole of the cock-pit interior in varnished teak. Teak laid deck to cockpit sole. Lifting cock-pit hatch to access the engine etc. below. Bermudian yawl rig on varnished masts. New varnished spruce built main mast in 2005 stepped through the main deck onto the keel. Single spreaders. Original mizzen mast stepped through the aft deck onto the horn timber. Single spreaders. Stainless steel standing rigging, swaged terminals and stainless steel rigging screws to internal galvanised steel chain plates through bolted to a steel angle plate across 3 pairs of frames under the heavy beam-shelf with twin arms down the frames to very effectively spread the rigging loads ensuring the sheer is not distorted in way of the main mast. Main mast with single lowers to the spreader roots, intermediate caps and cap shrouds, both round the spreaders. Masthead, split standing back stay to the quarters. Masthead fore stay to the end of the bowsprit. Inner fore stay to a fitting over the bowsprit back from the stem. Running back-stays on Highfield levers to counteract the pull of the inner fore stay. Mizzen mast rigging with single lower to the spreader root, intermediate cap and mast head cap round the spreaders. Varnished booms. Bumpkin takes the mizzen sheet. Main boom fitted with original bronz
