Year: 1942Manufacturer: Norpac Yacht & Ship Brokerage
Price: US$44,950
LOCATED IN SCENIC DOWNTOWN SAUSALITO, this remarkable vessel offers many opportunities to simply continue using her as she is or for further development as a yacht, luxurious pied-a-mer in the World-Class San Francisco Bay Area or what-have-you. This is an operational vessel and although tugs are always refered to as “boats,” she is in actuality, a small ship; built to go to sea & to work there. Originaly built as a Navy tug, she was operated commercially by Crowley Maritime (“Red Stack Tugs”) on the West Coast through 1997. She is a large vessel & offers substantial opportunity for further development … limited only by your imagination. Among her many attributes, she features Port & starboard single bunk rooms, down bow layout for stack bunks (4), Mid port galley, mid stb, dining, head , shower, separate, engine room down and aft engine room for batteries, shaft alley etc. There is room to install pretty much whatever you may desire. Gensets operate heater, water heater, lights Extras: pumps, many parts & spares, Some diesel fuel on board. Lots of big line, life jackets, … There is ample room to develop pretty much whatever you may wish to do with this remarkable vessel. Condition is somewhat rough but workable and haul out is needed. New batteries and hook up cables are being installed. Navy tugs of this vintage make for palatial live-aboards and are surprisingly efficient to operate. This historic vessel was built in Tacoma, Washington & launched in 1942 as PORT BLAKELEY for the US Maritime Commission, she entered Navy service in December of 1942 as YTB-266, USS POCAHONTAS & was sold to Crowley Maritime (“Red Stack Tugs”) in 1972 and renamed SEA LARK. She provided tug services on the West Coast for another 20 years & was purchased by her present owners in 1997 at which time all machinery was made operable, new steering cable was installed & she was hauled receiving new paint, zincs, etc. The underway photo at the top of the page is of SEA LARK winning the San Francisco Bay Tug Boat Races (she has placed both 1st & 2nd in various such races). Bringing her to her full glory will, of course, involve some work; but, she was built to last & can be expected to respond well to the infusion of new energy. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a remarkable ship with much to recommend her and virtually unlimited potential. We’ve even seen these large tugs successfully converted to full-rigged sailing ships; one is limited only by one’s imagination. Or, simply catch up on her maintenance & enjoy her as she is in a beautiful locale; a great deal of adventure & pleasure awaits you.
