The motor vessel MODOC was built for the United States Government in 1944 at Livingston Shipyard in Livingston, Texas. She served as a rescue tug in the South Pacific until 1945. From 1946 until 1959, the MODOC served as a spy ship stationed in Adak, Alaska, monitoring communications and movements by the Russians. In 1959, the MODOC was commissioned into the United States Coast Guard and served in Coos Bay Oregon until she was decommissioned in 1981. Purchased privately in 1989 she underwent a complete restoration and conversion to a charter vessel. This took over five years, and has resulted in a strong, luxurious yacht that has the ability to feel at home in either the warm waters of the South Pacific or breaking ice in the frigid waters of the extreme north. Modoc has four deck levels. The lower deck houses crew accommodations, ship’s refrigeration and freezers, ship’s galley, laundry room, the engine room with twin diesel engines, four generators, and associated equipment, the lower salon/lounge with large screen television and additional entertainment, a queen stateroom and a bunk room forward. The main deck provides a huge outdoor partially covered aft deck for entertaining, a large gas barbecue, and a full beam seat at the stern. The roomy and comfortable main salon is entered from the aft deck with large windows providing excellent visibility, and soft leather couches and chairs inviting relaxed lounging. When the weather turns chilly, a gas fireplace offers additional warmth. There’s a full bar in the main salon as well. Continuing forward, the dining area features two 2 seat tables and a semiformal table for eight. There’s an eating bar with 4 built in pedestal chairs. The upper galley features excellent appliances; a full range and oven, microwave, side by side refrigerator and freezer, toaster, coffee maker etc. The main deck forward provides three queen staterooms, staircases to the 01 deck, and to the lower deck, a laundry room and a full head. The 01 deck above features a large hot tub, seating and uncovered lounge areas. A crane with full pilot control is located on the aft area of the 01 deck. The top deck of MODOC houses the helm and the captain’s office. Full ship control is provided with completely updated electronics, electrical controls, and computers. Electronics include full range day and night radar, GPS with plotter, computer satellite control, auto pilot, SSB and VHF Marine radios, navigation compass, and depth sounders. There are accommodations for 12 guests and 8 crew members. 6 in three queen staterooms on the main deck forward – each with full bath including toilet, sink in large tiled countertop, excellent storage area, and a full size shower. (One bath contains a bathtub with shower) 2 in a fourth queen stateroom on the lower level (with ensuite bath) 4 in single berths in a deluxe forward bunk room with a shared full bath. Each of the queen staterooms features cabinets with storage drawers, a full hanging closet, television set and VHS player. Lower aft dormitory crew accommodations for 8 are provided with a separate aft entrance from the main deck. A full bath is provided for the crew.
