The designer of ‘Flamingo’ Mr Powell was no amateur or unknown he produced several designs some of which are in the 1979 volume of Lloyds.This wooden yacht had a substantial hull refurbishment in 2005/6 which included new keel bolts, raking out, caulking and filling of seams, complete repaint, including removal of all old paint both above and below the waterline. Full receipts and photographs are available for all this work undertaken by professional shipwrights.It would be fair to say that Flamingo needs some cosmetic attention but it’s important to take into consideration the extensive refurbishment which has enhanced her overall, and indeed hull wise she is in good condition for her age. The new sails, full engine service with new gearbox (2011) and equipment upgrades over the last few years all make her a boat worth considering. Looking underneath a bit of flaking paint she has some very nice features inside a little bit of TLC to the interior over the winter would add the final touches and indeed you could have a bit of a star on your hands.Lying Belfast Lough viewed and photographed by Kirstie of Sail NI
