Stephens were all expensive custom builds and this lovely classic motoryacht is a fine example of what this builder was world-renowned for during their heyday–beautiful designs, flawlessly executed. One of their later wood vessels, she was built for a prominent East Coast family (the Mays, of May’s Department Store fame) and has had nothing but the best since new. With major refits in 1986 and 2007, she’s been updated throughout but of course retains the stately traditional lines for which Stephens are so well known. She has always been impeccably maintained and, with over $500,000 spent at KKMI over the past three years ago, is in boat show condition today. Some highlights of the work done over the past two years include full interior refit with the forepeak being completely gutted and reconfigured into a large, modern master suite, vessel totally wooded and painted (in an enormous inside enclosure) in snow white Awlgrip after any planking or fastening issues were addressed, brightwork also wooded then varnished with 18 coats of gloss, all new exterior canvas, isinglass and cushions and a new foredeck (new sub-decks, new teak decks and new built in foredeck seating), new electronics (color chartplotter, radar and active tracking satellite TV with 50″ flat panel plasma TV), vessel almost completely rewired as well as extensive plumbing work, most appliances replaced, much more (work done at one of the best yards in the Bay area and owners have all receipts). In addition, $1.3 million was spent reportedly spent on the 1986 refit, and this was ALOT of money 20 years ago! Of the work done then, the most notable from today’s vantage point being that all the machinery was replaced including both engines and both gensets, a large flybridge was added and the interior was refit from stem to stern with top of the line materials (the furniture-quality joinery and dark green marble countertops are particularly notable). When last surveyed in 2006, the surveyor noted, “This vessel is a classic Stephens Motor Yacht and built to a high standard. She appears to have been very well maintained and has had numerous cosmetic and systems upgrades displaying good workmanship and materials. She should be considered to be at the high end of comparable vessels value”, and, with a half million dollars spent since that was written, should make an even more compelling case now. A vessel such as this comes on the market only occasionally, and Our Destiny must be seen to be appreciated. Also note she’s lying downtown Sausalito in a PRIME Sausalito Yacht Harbor slip that can transfer; it’s very difficult to find a local slip of any size and almost IMPOSSIBLE to find one 70′ so this is a material benefit if you’re able to take advantage. Asking price just reduced by $100,000, owners are motivated and offers encouraged…
