Yankee Dolphin 24, Hull #138, Yankee Ocean Racing-Cruiser designed by Sparkman & Stevens, built by Yankee Yachts. Olin Stevens stated in 1965 about the Yankee Dolphin “..we have always thought of the Dolphin as one of our best designs…” Olin Stevens has designed many yachts, such as America’s Cup yachts, and Iconic yachts. Olin Stephens major design yacht projects included Ranger the J-Class winner of the 1937 America’s Cup, designed 6 out of the 7, 12 Metre America’s Cup winners, designed Dorade in 1929 and Stormy Weather in 1934 both yachts each won the Newport/Bermuda and Fastnet races. Olin Stephens passed in 2008, having been named an inaugural inductee in the ISAF Hall of Fame. Our Yankee Dolphin 24, finished 2nd in the Champagne Series sailed in the Santa Monica Bay this year in a large cruising fleet race, with only missing 1st which was won by a J-124. The DOLPHIN is a keel-centerboard masthead sloop of moderately light displacement, and long waterline designed by Olin Stephens, of the yacht design Sparkman & Stevens. The Dolphin provides seakindliness and accommodations in keeping with the trend toward family participation in cruising both shallow and deep sea areas. Without sacrificing beauty, safety, function, and speed, the Dolphin has real below-deck comfort. The big usable galley, the large dinette, and enclosed head with sliding door and mirror are a joy to the first mate and family. On deck, her trunk cabin with long, strong hand rail, and side decks fitted with husky teak toe rail mean sure footed safety when going forward to change headsails, to handle the spinnaker, to anchor or to pick up the mooring. The DOLPHIN’s fiberglass construction is carefully balanced with just enough teak on deck and mahogany below to make your investment one of low maintenance and proud ownership. Design is the key to her sparkling performance and cruising comfort. Features of the Yankee Dolphin 24: Hull is molded fiberglass.
