”Kira” has been in her current ownership for nearly twenty years and was purchased in the US in 1988. Originally she was built at Nautor in Finland and then shipped to Palmer Johnson in the States where she was completed. In those days, a vessel would not have to pay 50% import taxes if she was not completed prior to shipping.

Palmer Johnson was the original Nautor Agents in the States. The rig and winches are original and indeed much of “Kira” is in original condition and would appeal to a buyer looking for a good example of this beautiful Sparkman and Stephens design.

The current owner has cherished her with the following works completed; Mast step stripped out and replaced 2002 1991 teak deck replaced in Hong Kong Main engine replaced some 18 years ago Hull painted Awlgrip Flag Blue (white previously) two years ago Cabin floorboards replaced in Honk Kong approximately 21 years ago The standing rigging was replaced approximately 8 years ago

The boat has never been chartered in her current ownership and has taken part in some Regattas mainly in the Corinthian spirit of racing. The owner confirms that the winches are in good condition but also concedes that the sails are getting tired and she could do with a couple of electric primary winches to help with short-handed cruising.

She is also fitted with a coffee grinder aft of the mast. The owner has also fitted a bow thruster in 2009 to aid short-handed close-quarter work. Note: boat number 012 “Tauranga” did the first Whitbread Round The World Race 1973-74 and boat number 013 “Walross III” was the third race 1981-82.
