Bermudian sloop Part 1 regd. Length on deck 38’ Lwl 26’9” Beam 11’6” Draft 5’10” Thames tonnage 13TM Displacement 7.2 tons Designed and built by James McGruer & Co, Clynder, Dunbartonshire in 1974. One of the last yachts built by this great Scottish yard, she represents the development in yacht design from the traditional to the more modern and was a cutting edge design in her day. She was built to the order of her previous and only other owner who had sailed a McGruer 8CR. His remit was for a fast, comfortable cruising yacht and the design was developed from the IOR Marguerita Helena 1V (later named Reflection) and Tritsch Tratsch . The hull design shows features typical of the modern design with increased beam, a short, moulded fin keel and the rudder separated from the keel and carried on a skeg to reduce wetted surface area while still maintaining directional stability. However she still retains a very attractive short counter from an earlier design culture. Conventionally planked in carefully selected mahogany with all splined seams as she has been varnished from new. Laminated iroko back-bone. 2” x 2 ½” laminated iroko ring frames across the centre-line at 12” centres. An interesting feature of the modern wooden yacht design is the double thickness sheer strake with no beam-shelf. Instead, every deck beam is tied to every frame by a ply gusset knee on every frame to give a very rigid structure. External 3.3 tons lead ballast keel secured with bronze keel bol
