She went through a full refit in 2000-2001 and has had continual upgrades since. About the only things of 1980 vintage are her hull and deck! Most topside teak was eliminated in favor of low-maintenance stainless steel. All deck hardware was replaced and re-bedded along with replacing the ports and hatches, so unlike other boats of her vintage, she has no topside leaks. Her original engine was replaced with a more powerful Perkins 4-236 85hp diesel, allowing her to motor at 7 knots while only turning 1600 RPM. Originally designed for the charter trade, Liberty has been reconfigured to better meet the needs of a 2-person crew rather than 4-6 crew typical of charter boats. Her 5kw diesel AC generator keeps the 1000 Amp-hour battery bank topped off and can operate her systems which are designed to keep her crew comfortable and well-fed. The Dual Air-conditioning helps with dockside comfort, and a commercial grade and sized compressor can keep the fridge and freezer cold enough to stock plenty of good food and even ice-cream! A 12 gph watermaker plus 300 gallons of freshwater tankage mean that fresh water availability is never a problem. Liberty was featured in Cruising World magazine’s “Classic Plastic” column https://www.cruisingworld.com/sailboats/boat-reviews/morgan-46-competent-and-comfortable in an article written by her previous owner. You can read more about her adventures across the Atlantic Ocean and beyond at www.libertysails.com, the website of her previous owners. ABOUT THE DESIGN Liberty has a fin keel with a separate skeg-hung rudder. This makes her sail efficiently to windward, (she is no racer of course!) while still making for a heavy-displacement sea-kindly motion. In a 10-15 knot wind she usually sees speeds of 6-7 knots. Her center-cockpit design keeps the crew warm and dry under a fully-enclosed dodger and bimini and allows for a very large aft stateroom and a large engine room. 14 opening stainless steel ports and 7 hatches mean ventilation is never a problem. You can see her sailplan and interior plan below. Unlike other Morgan 46’s, Liberty does not have the aft head and bathtub, these having been removed to make room for a large computer desk and king-sized berth. We find one head is enough. Full Specs: HULL: Heavy solid fiberglass layup. Blisters are not a problem on this boat: She was treated with 3 layers of barrier coat in 2000. DECK – Ideal V3C anchor windlass, installed professionally (2007) – 2 stainless steel mast pulpits, new in 2003 -Stainless steel grab-bars on both sides of dodger and grab rail along aft edge of dodger, new in 2003 -New Dodger, Bimini, and full enclosure panels in 2010, allows cockpit to be made int
