While in 1973 when she was designed by a youthful Bob Perry, the Valiant was considered a radical hull shape more racing than cruising, today the Bob Perry long fin cruising keel and skeg hung rudder is the staple of good sailing solid cruising boats. The Valiant offered something most cruising boats just didn’t have, the ability to sail fast. And the Valiant does sail fast, but more important to most of us, she sails safe. This is a solid safe, capable vessel that can almost sail herself. ?The Valiant has been the boat of choice for a number of circumnavigators and has recorded finishes at the top of fleets in some of the world’s most challenging races, including the Single-handed Transatlantic and the BOC Challenge. In the Valiant 40 Resourceful in l983, Mark Schrader set the record for the fastest circumnavigation, becoming the first American to sail around the world via the five capes. The Valiant 40 continues to be the choice for couples who want to voyage far, cruise the Caribbean or voyage far. There have been more offshore passages and circumnavigations on the Valiant by a couple or short crew than any other boat. Blue water cruisers chose a Valiant for good reasons.
