Often considered the perfect wooden daysailer, Wenaumet (Bigelow) Kitten built by R. Bigelow & Son circa 1984 has been professionally maintained and always kept in excellent condition.  “Tradition” is one of a rare few wooden boats that shows her owners’ pride in ownership.  She is arguably the nicest boat in the fleet of these rare cat boats.  Recent price reflects the owner’s desire to sell immediately. Her condition is excellent with new paint and brightwork to all surfaces.  She comes very complete with mainsail, spinnaker, spinnaker pole, anchor and rhode, all lines are in excellent shape.  This vessel was traditionally built, finished, and maintained with that same respect to its heritage.  Thus, well named:  TRADITION. This is a classic catboat, ready for the next wooden boat lover to enjoy and cherish. She has turned heads in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts and Portland, Maine. She has been on display at the  Maine Boatbuilders show in Portland, Maine in 2009 and is now reluctantly up for sale. She can be seen now nack on Cape Cod, by appointment only.  Respectful offers will be respectfully considered. BACKGROUND: Reuben Bigelow, who started as a Designer Engineer for Nathaniel Herreshoff & Co., was the designer and builder of these wonderful catboats. They are not well known because Reuben & son, Cecil, made them by hand themselves.  Approximately 85 were built, this one being the last one actually built by Mr. Bigelow. Each vessel was a thing of beauty and true to its class. Their owners love and care for these boats as a testament to the catboat tradition. Most are still accounted for and have been seen as far West as Michigan, North to Nova Scotia, and South to S.C. “Tradition” is the second to last boat built by the Bigelow yard before its closing.  She comes with her own storage cradle on wheels. A new custom fitted trailer is available at additional cost.
