Designed as a smaller version of the Nicholson 31, the Halmatic 30 is in very much the same style – a heavy displacement long-keeler with a high ballast ratio. They are strongly built and have an excellent reputation as a serious seagoing yacht. This is a very good and quite lightly used example of these yachts, and although moulded in 1984 she was not launched till 1988. ‘Yachting Monthly’ describe the Halmatic 30 as “….an excellent sea boat, well balanced with a comfortable motion” and “….they make safe and secure cruisers and are capable of serious offshore work”. This is a slightly unusual example, as she was fitted out by her first owner (an engineer) over a four year period before launch. Most of the interior joinery is standard, and appears to have been supplied by Halmatic, but she has different (and possibly more attractive) cabin windows to the standard boats, and strongly reinforced chainplates – the deck plates for these being a known weak point of the original design. She has also had an additional mast compression post fitted in the heads compartment, addressing another known potential problem with this design. The hull was epoxied when new, and re-epoxied about five years ago by the present owner.
