Hyundai, is an industrial giant whose shipbuilding division, Hyundai Heavy Industries, is the world’s largest shipbuilder, constructing fully 15% of the global fleet.  In the late eighties, the company entered the pleasure craft market and began a modest run of one hundred hulls, fifty of which were completed just as the 10% Luxury Tax and the 1990 recession began. This was the reason that the production lines of most yacht builders shut down for good due to the all knowing mentality of the American political nonsense that fathered this disaster. These weren’t your typical Far East boats; rather, as one might expect of a builder of highly-engineered tankers, they were carefully thought-out in spec and execution, and were ahead of their time: there is a good deal of Euro and U.S.-sourced equipment, and all of it top-notch.. Then, as now, these Hyundai 49s offer a tremendous value for the money: first, the build quality is evident even after twenty years–no window leaks, no cracking of exterior FRP–evidence truly robust construction…and the original plumbing/wiring is all there. These 49-footer packs in what some 60-footers cannot. Space utilization and layout (especially the multitude of storage volumes throughout) make for a very roomy 2-stateroom 2-head cruiser or live aboard. This is a trawler that burns only 6 gallons per hour at 10 knots. The engine hours are 1650 hours since the seller purchased her new.  She is also a pretty fast motor yacht topping out over 18 knots.
