SPREE is a Schoechl Sunbeam 34 built in Austria in 1989 by Schoechl Yachts.  The Sunbeam 34 was built to exceed German Lloyds standards and is well known for its speed, blue water capability, build quality and luxurious hand crafted mahogany interior.  The Sunbeam 34 is a fast and very comfortable cruising Yacht, designed to adapt to any sailing environment. The V-shaped bow eliminates pounding in choppy seas and makes for a very dry boat. The deck is laid out for easy handling by only one or two persons. The SUNBEAM 34 is extremely seaworthy and built to withstand the rough conditions of the North Sea.  SPREE is an excellent example.  A current survey is available.   Dimensions: LOA:  37’ 1″  (34’  5″ with a 2’ 8″ transom extension for boarding, life raft stowage, swim platform, etc.) LWL:  28′ Displacement:  13,652 lbs Ballast:  5,500 lbs, cast iron Draft:  4′ 8″ Beam:  11′ 4″   Construction: Hull: hand-laid fiberglass using alternating layers of mat and woven roving. Only isophtalic acid resin and isophtalic gelcoat were used to limit the liklihood of blistering. The colored water lines and boot top are integrated into the gelcoat. All stress points are heavily reinforced. Bulkheads and all interior parts are laminated to the hull.  The owner has just engaged Hinckley Yachts of Oxford, Maryland to refinish the hull with Awlcraft 2000 — when this is completed the hull we be cosmetically “as new”.   Ballast: Hydrodynamically designed keel fitted to the hull with two lines of stainless steel bolts. The keel section of the hull is heavily reinforced with a system of cross members laminated to the keel section of the hull.  SPREE has the optional shallow draft winged fin keel — designed to provide shallow draft and an extremely stable yacht with good windward performance.   Rudder: High performance elliptical rudder supported and protected by a solid semi skeg. Forged stainless steel shaft.   Hull-to-deck Connection: 5″ wide overlapping “flanges” are laminated together and covered by an aluminium rubrail which is thru-bolted.   Deck and Superstructure:  Hand laid fiberglass. The deck is a sandwich construction with a thick closed-cell p.u. foam core. A special antislip material, TBS, is laid into the deck surface. A self-draining, lockable deckwell for anchor/chain/line/fender storage.   Deck Fittings: To provide strength for fittings and winches, stainless steel plates are laminated into the respective deck parts. The stanchions are fixed in heavy duty sockets. There are extra long genoa/tracks with sliding blocks.  The genoa tracks are recessed into the deck to make them “trip safe”. The divided bow pulpit makes for easy boarding. There are double-wired PVC coated lifelines and anodized aluminum handrails on top of the cabin for safety when working on deck. The stern pulpit has double hand rails, fittings for extra blocks and an integrated boarding ladder.  The owner has just engaged Hinckley Yachts of Oxford, Maryland to replace all of the translucent hatches so that there are no scratches or swirl marks to mar their appearance.
