She sailed here from Turkey where she was built in 1992 and features a near- new 205 HP Caterpillar Diesel main engine that will move her at up to 10.5 Knots under power alone. CHANTOU (translates to “Flower”) is a beamy (22’) & commodious vessel with lots of space & comfort on deck & below as well as featuring a large covered (& enclosable) fantail aft deck with plenty of seating & large ship’s Table for al fresco dining, entertaining, or just lounging about (the couch back there also converts into a large bed under the stars, the Sun or what-have-you). CHANTOU is a  Turkish “Gullet” (Turkish pronunciation: [?u?let]), from the French golette (schooner), they are a traditional and well-proven design of a two-masted wooden sailing vessel from the south-west coast of Turkey, although similar vessels can be found all around the eastern Mediterranean. Today this type of vessel, varying in size from 14 to 35 meters, is popular for tourist charters and features a broad beam, raised bow, a broad rounded stern, a main foremast and secondary mast aft. These days Turkey’s wooden gulets are mostly configured as motorsailers, with powerful diesel engines to provide primary power, and sails to provide additional power, or primary power in strong winds. This means you can sail silently when the wind allows, but go wherever you want reliably with motor power. Gulets are particularly good as pleasure sailing vessels because of their broad beam, which gives them lots of deck space—particularly aft—and plenty of room for spacious cabins below decks.
