The J 42 is perhaps Rod Johnstone’s most successful and popular models.  It has been described as “a cruising boat you can race.”  Add to that general description the recent upgrades that the current owner of S/V DAWN TREADER has added, notably an array of Andersen electric winches, then you have a really good boat, made even better.  DAWN TREADER has been only locally used, though is more than capable of long distance voyaging and/or racing.  Her PHRF rating is 66 with a conventional pole and spinnaker or 78 with an asymetrical kite.  Comfortable and spacious below, sleek and efficient on the exterior, the J 42 is a brilliantly executed all-purpose, easily handled sailing vessel.  This particular one has been thoughtfully upgraded, though too little used.  Professionally maintained since new by Dodson Boatyard, Stonington, CT.
