Although highly satisfied with the yacht’s general performance, the owners felt that they could improve her sea-going ability by fitting a stabilizer system. The owner wished to be able to use his yacht in any sea conditions and not to be restricted by weather or wave conditions. The options were discussed with Guy Couach, and a decision was made to install a Quantum trim-tab-fin “Ride Control” system. It was decided to fit a compartment onto the transom of the yacht, – in the form of a hull extension – which would house the stabilizer equipment. This would serve to extend the length of the vessel by 80 centimetres, improve her trim and hull-speed capability, as well as keep the original steering compartment clear of the additional stabilizer equipment. Guy Couach drew the plans for the extension, and this was taken from an existing hull mold plug. The extension was constructed in France at Guy Couach Shipyard and was fitted in Palma de Mallorca under the supervision of the Guy Couach naval architect, Exequiel Cano Lanza. At the same time as the hull modification and the fitting of the Quantum Stabilizers, the rudders were extended by 15 centimetres, to improve rudder control. During sea-trials with the new stabilizer system the modification was found to be a complete success, and the performance of the vessel in any sea conditions was markedly impressive. The steering ability in a following or quartering sea was greatly improved, stability in all conditions was notable and the trim of the vessel was improved by the hull extension.
