Corporacion Ballota Sac Boats Review and Specs
Year: 2008Manufacturer: The Catamaran Group
Price: US$399,000
Magewind upgrades since purchasing in September 2010, plus an additional listing of appliances and equipment that will go with the boat. At the time of purchase, the catamaran was a neglected, unknown maintained and in disrepair. Though, a very good design, well built and nicely finished, there were several assembly issues. I essence, the catamaran was never really commissioned properly after launching. Basically the catamaran was nothing more than day sailor heavily dependent on the services of a marina every night for moorage, water, and electricity. Now, with the systems in place, Magewind is able to go weeks on end cursing or at anchor.

• New DC wiring system All loads (lights and appliances) and supplies (battery banks. and generators) are now on a high current wiring bus. Any of the engines, be it the two main engines or the generator, can be started with any of the other engine’s batteries or the house bank. The auxiliary generator (Northern Lights M673LD2.3) has a completely independent alternator for its own starting battery which under normal operating conditions is switched off the bus. In this way, the generator can be started regardless of the state of the rest of the system. The auxiliary generator (AUX GEN) is also fitted with a high output externally regulated alternator rated at 150 amps at 12v. The House Battery Bank is 350 amp-hour in the form of two six-volt flooded batteries in series who’s status is monitored by a 3kw inverter system which auto starts the AUX GEN before the bank reaches the 50% discharge point. Amp Hour meter installed to monitor the house battery bank.350-watt solar panel array installed to connect to DC bus through Blue Sky 3024iL MPPT charge controller. Air-X 400 watt wind generator on board but not installed.Converted masthead navigation lights and main salon lights to light-emitting diodes (LED).
• New AC wiring system The connecting point between the AC and DC systems is the inverter/charger/transfer switch system is a Xantrex SW3000 which has its own communications network interconnecting to the control panel and the AUXGEN start controller. Through this system, there is also remote manual AUX GEN start and start switches in the generator compartment and the galley. In the galley, the inverter can also be remotely controlled. The AC system was unable to cope with the loads and the distances and has been upgraded to 10 gauge wire to all major load points. Also, the bonding system has been reconfigured to control electrolyzes between thru-hull fittings and the shore power. Shore power has been upgraded 30amp single circuit to 50amp two 110 VAC circuit, primary and secondary.
• THE primary AC circuit is controlled by the SW3000 which services the charging of the house battery bank, freezer, refrigerator, AC lighting, and outlets. Interruption to this primary AC circuit instantly switches over to the inverter by the transfer switch which starts to use the main house battery bank which in time, will start the AUX GEN.• Secondary AC circuit supports the port and starboard air conditioning units and AC element for the hot water heater. The air conditioning units can be manually switched between this secondary AC circuit and the AUX GEN for use underway. AC element for the hot water heater can not switch off this circuit and will only operate when shore power is available. All other times, hot water is created by a heat exchanger and the AUX GEN cooling system. Replaced failing freezer compressor fan with two high flow box fans.• Over hauled plumbing system Replaced all incorrect and leaking faucet connections, which were just about all on board. Inoperative on-demand 110vac hot water heater was replaced with an 11 gallon AC and heat exchanger unit housed in the generator compartment. On deck forward pressured freshwater fitting
