Founded in 1947, Stur-Dee Boat Co. is owned and operated by the daughter and granddaughter of the founder of this New England firm. Together, Heidi and Mackenzie Reid build the boats which their founder/father/grandfather built for years. These fiberglass boats are known for their simplicity, sweet lines, and excellent sea manners in rough water. The Stur-Dee Cat is a lovely sailing vessel. She was designed by Edson Schock, and has a modern marconi rig with aggressive sailplan. This 14’4″ catboat goes to windward with an excellent turn of speed. The mainsail is raised and lowered from the cockpit. Her 7-foot beam, and long 13’2″ water line yield good hull speed and great stability. The long, comfortable bench seats can accommodate 4 adults or more younger crew. There is a cuddy for storing gear. An optional boom tent protects the cockpit and acts as a sailcover. The centerboard trunk has the mainsheet conveniently mounted on the trailing edge. The centerboard can be raised with one hand, and the draft is 3’6″ board down, and only 10″ board up. The tiller operates a large rudder which gives excellent control while under sail or power. There is a built in mount for an outboard motor–only 2 h.p. is needed.
