The Nexus 600 is the first catamaran launched from an exciting design and build operation based in Cape St Francis, South Africa. Two years in construction, hull #1 has been carefully crafted by an experienced team who understand the complexities of combining light weight epoxy construction with maximum strength capabilities. Following its recent launch and extensive sea-trials in the rough waters off South Africa, hull #1 is now offered as a demonstrator model to parties interested in acquiring a blue water catamaran of exceptional passage making capabilities. Standard systems included on this exciting catamaran include: Twin 110 hp Yanmar Turbo engines with shaft drives and Gori folding props; 12kw Westerbeke generator; Cruisair Air Conditioning; Bosch Washer and Tumble Dryer; Furuno Navnet instrumentation; Armimar liferaft – ten man; Spectra Newport 400 watermaker; Electric Anderson winches. The Nexus 600 is a sailing catamaran conceived, designed and built to perform as an accomplished blue water cruising vessel. With this in mind a great deal of attention has been given to provide the features, quality and performance required when taking on high seas. The design brief has been to maintain a level of simplicity in the systems and finish with an emphasis on comfort rather than flash. Because the Nexus 600 is a long distance cruiser, it has been designed from the start as a capable load carrier, with fuel, water and load carrying capacities that reflect the requirements of serious ocean expeditions. To this end the hull lines have been optimised to carry substantial loads without negatively affecting performance. These design attributes have been confirmed in sea trials with half and full tank loads, where speeds consistently above comparative boats have been achieved.The Nexus 600 has fixed fin keels with generous chord length and minimal draft, and which also double as grounding protection by straddling both mast and companionway bulkheads. Rudders are of the balanced spade type and provide light and sensitive steering control. The primary hull, deck and bulkhead structure has been optimized to provide a solid and seaworthy platform without adding excessive weight. Construction is in epoxy resin into glass with a foam core. The interior secondary structure and furniture panels are cored wherever possible to enhance stiffness and reduce weight. The use of wood in structural forms has been avoided wherever possible in the interests of weight saving and long term water resistance. The exterior finish is faired and painted to offer a long lasting a glossy finish. The window material on the Nexus 600 is laminated glass with a heat reflecting coating.
