Aquila RP45 Racer/Cruiser, ideal for Club Racing as well as Grand Prix IRC or ORCi Racing.   Versatility and performance are at the forefront of the Aquila RP45 Racer/Cruiser design concept.  Upon commencing the design process for the boat, it was clear that the ultimate goal was to produce a fast, fun, and competitive inshore and offshore racer-cruiser that was as comfortable on the cruising grounds as it was on the race course.  As difficult as it can be to achieve these goals, the end product’s primary attributes lend themselves to this versatility:  moderate volume, high stability, a comfortable interior, modern appendages, and a manageable sailplan; all combined in a hull form born from the highest levels of grand-prix racing.    The hull form and appendages are direct descendants of the Reichel/Pugh Yacht Design office’s most recent developments in grand prix IRC and box rule racing.  Through continuous analysis of existing yacht configurations and development of future hull forms through computational research, full scale analysis of performance data and continuous feedback from some of the world’s leading sailing programs, the design team is able to remain at the forefront of modern yacht design and ahead of the competition. All of this knowledge was brought into the development of the Aquila RP45 Racer/Cruiser.  The hull form and appendage package are focused on performance and speed, but without sacrificing control on any point of sail in any sea conditions.  The general performance target for the Aquila RP45 Racer/Cruiser was a well-rounded yacht that can perform in all conditions.  The hull form exhibits low upright wetted surface that allows it to perform well in the light breeze, but the stability increases quickly when heeled to provide performance and comfortable sailing in heavier air.  This versatility ensures that the yacht will be competitive under all racing conditions, both inshore and offshore and would make an ideal club racer.   The appendage sections and keel and rudder shape are developments of Reichel/Pugh Yacht Design’s latest research and are configured to offer full control to the helmsman in all conditions and through downwind maneuvers.
