Simple to rig and easy to sail, Walker Bay sailboats are competitive on all tacks versus other boats in their class.   Developed by experts in Bay of Biscay, France who compete in the international sailing racing circuit, many thoughtful extras have been added to the Sail Kits to make harnessing the wind easy and exciting.   Practical experience Paolo Rista, Walker Bay’s head designer, combines talents as an international boat designer and artist, with the hands-on knowledge and expertise of a high performance sailor. His own boat, the Open 750, is an inspiration of leading edge design and technology and is a top competitor in the European race circuit.   Sailing Performance   Walker Bay® Sail Kits come with performance features that enhance your experience on the water. A computer generated hydrodynamic lightweight aluminum foil was created for our new daggerboards. Combining maximum stiffness, minimum weight, and maximum surface area on the daggerboard enables our boats to point better into the wind while still maintaining speed. By using a combination of glass-filled fibre reinforced Nylon and lightweight 6061 custom extruded aluminum, we have created a rudder blade that maximizes its high strength to weight ratio. As a result, the rudder blade is stiffer, lighter and will last longer over time. This innovation creates superior upwind ability, responsiveness, turning, tacking, and acceleration.   High aspect sail design is utilized creating a radial panel layout, seam, shaping, and luff curve. High Performance sails are self trimming and can be custom tuned for optimum performance. When there is reduced tension on the downhaul, the sail is less flat, providing additional lower end power.   When sheeted, the mast flexes and the sail flattens out spilling wind and optimizing control. The nature of the aluminum mast on all Walker Bay® sail kits has flex characteristics that help create this controlling effect.   Walker Bay sail kits create boats that are competitive to many dedicated sailboats. Pointing ability is optimized through a combination of hull design, sail plan and daggerboard performance.   Finally, a hinged telescopic tiller extension allows steering from various positions within the boat and will easily retract, ultimately yielding comfort and fast transitions for every level of sailor. Walker Bay® offers a line of performance sail kits that are competitive with other boats in its class.   Adding a tube increases sailing performance.   By adding a tube to a Walker Bay® sailboat, water displacement decreases as heeling occurs resulting in greater boat speed versus not using a tube. The RID tube also adds stability to the boat making it safer for beginner sailors while also allowing expert sailors to be more aggressive when tacking or jibing
